10. SONY Bravia and ‘the bouncing balls’

To kick off the list at no. 10; we have SONY Bravia and ‘the bouncing balls.’ Most people will remember this ad, and whilst I have literally no idea from memory what Sony was selling; I remember the advert well. The reason this is on the list is that the advert includes no computer graphics whatsoever. 250,000 bouncy balls were purchased in the US, drainage systems were covered and bouncy balls were set loose over San Francisco. The balls were collected after filming and donated to children shelters across the city. Good stuff.

9. WKD “Missus Alert”

This maybe isn’t a better-known advert, I’ve included it as one of my favourite ads of all time. Whilst it probably would not be as well-received in today’s social climate; it’s hilarious. As someone with barmaid experience – I can confirm this really does happen.

8. Budweiser – “King of Beers”

This is not a new campaign Budweiser has come up with but it is, nonetheless, cool. And therefore deserves number 8 spot on the list.

7. Dove “Real Beauty”

Dove took the lead over 5 years ago to show the reality behind beauty industry photo shoots and the issues with perfecting models to sell a product. All their adverts today still hold a similar sentiment. All-in-all a great campaign that still sticks in my mind today.

6. Coca Cola “Pool Boy”

‘Pool boy’ ad that aired in 2017, depicts a brother and sister competing for the attention of an attractive Poolboy, only to be thrown over for their mother. Great fun, modern and progressive – it was a hit.

5. Coca Cola “Christmas”

We cannot mention any Coca Cola ad without giving a nod to the highly iconic Christmas Coca Cola campaign which airs every Christmas getting everyone in the mood. Coca Cola thus takes up spots 5 AND 6.

4. Go Compare “Go compare man”

This could be a controversial one; whilst everyone will probably agree its one of the most annoying adverts to plague the 21st Century, it is undeniably influential and iconic.

3. John Lewis “The Bear & the Hare”

Quite frankly, I could do a top 10 list on John Lewis Christmas adverts alone; they nail it every year. But the heartwarming story of a gift being given to the bear (from the hare) of an alarm clock so he woke from hibernation to enjoy Christmas just takes the biscuit. Hand me the tissues.

2. Budlight “Dilly Dilly”

How many times have you heard a mate shout ‘Dilly dilly’ inside an undesirable public house? Yes, Dilly dilly stormed the nation. An advert that was enjoyed by the everyone – pub-wide.

Joint 1st = Cadbury “Eyebrow Dance” and “Gorilla”

There was no way I could differentiate a position for these two ads – both had to go at the top. It’s what most people think of when you say ‘best adverts’. Iconic.

The 21st Century has been flooded with great advertisement campaigns, and there were some extremely notable ones that just didn’t quite make the list.

As such, here are some notable mentions:
