How Does This Affect My Business

By July 2023 the legacy Universal Analytics property will cease to function 🚫. This means that businesses will need to create and switch to the new GA4 property. There are big changes in GA4 both in terms of how things are tracked and also in terms of it integrates with other Google tools.

For some businesses, this will require a lot of work creating new goals and dashboards so it’s better to get a jump on this sooner rather than later. Worth mentioning to your local marketing agency if you need support.

What Does Google Actually Want?

Google has spent a lot of time thinking about customer privacy and is working it’s way towards a cookieless web. This helps to raise internet security and also lowers the impact that Google-related tags have on your website speed 💨.

Essentially, with GA4 everything can now be ported through tag manager and you can more clearly define what you want to track. There is no need for multiple tags for Google Analytics, Tag Manager and Ads.

On top of the above, there will be more clarity between configuring dimensions and scope to deliver cross-platform insights 📊.

Can You Help?

Absolutely, we are gradually migrating our clients away from Universal Analytics and across to GA4 😁 . The price will vary based on your existing setup as workloads will differ.

Our initial approach is pretty clear. We first set up the new property, leaving the new one intact so you can review your historic data.

We then reconfigure your Google Tag Manager account to track the new property and set up the relevant triggers and events. Once this has been completed the old Universal Analytics property is removed as everything will run solely through tag manager.

From there it’s just the case of re-creating the relevant dashboards.
